A Great Association
As in all great associations, the Victorian Canine Association (VCA) owes an extensive debt to its founders and past officers for their commitment, forethought, and generosity in giving their time to support an institution in which they believe. Their reward has been in the continued success of the VCA and witnessing its continuous development.
The VCA (now trading as DOGS Victoria) has earned a reputation as one of Australia's great associations, a status which has been achieved under the leadership of its presidents and through the effort of its committees and staff.
The Future
The association sees and understands its obligation to its present members and future generations of members by keeping its facilities in good condition and creating an environment that encourages its new members to achieve excellence.
The association has established the VCA Charitable Trust to ensure its success in achieving these obligations. The Charitable Trust has a principal objective of enlisting the financial support of members of the VCA.
-
To finance and maintain VCA facilities for the benefit and enjoyment of all members
-
To provide financial funding for Responsible Pet Ownership Programs within Victoria
-
To provide financial funding for the rescue of dogs in Victoria
-
Capital Works Fund: to be used for appropriate capital works to the property of VCA
-
Such other fund or funds, for particular purposes within the objects of the association, as the trustees may from time to time determine
Donations
Donations can be made at any time to the association for any specific purpose nominated by the donor or to be added to the general funds of the association.
Donations in excess of $1,000 will be acknowledged on an honour board displayed at KCC Park. Donations of $100 or more can be accumulated and when they exceed $1,000 they will also be acknowledged on the honour board.
Enquiries may be made with the DOGS Victoria office or the VCA Charitable Trust.
Bequests
Unlike some other sporting and recreational organisations, the VCA does not enjoy the benefit of capital or revenue from major benefactors.
A major purpose of the association is to build up, by means of legacies under wills and other fundraising activities, an ever increasing, perpetual and independent capital fund. The income so earned, or capital if so directed, can then be passed onto the association on a regular basis to help finacne specific activities or capital works.
The VCA invites you to further your present interest in the association by including the association among your beneficiaries.
A bequest may be made in one or more forms:
-
A Specific Bequest of a fixed sum or of shares, property, securities and life assurance policies
-
A Residuary Bequest of all or a percentage of your estate after provision for other beneficiaries has been met
-
A Contingent Bequest to take effect only in the event that the primary beneficiaries under the will predecease you or upon the death of specific beneficiaries
-
A Testamentary Trust, the principal of which is passed to the association upon the death of the beneficiaries of the trust income
Any of the foregoing bequests may be either 'restricted' or 'unrestricted'. From the association's point of view 'unrestricted' bequests are very valuable because they may be applied as necessary to meet any of a range of needs which may apply at a specific time. On the other hand, you may wish your gift to be applied in perpetuity for a specific purpose.
We suggest that if it is some time since you reviewed your will, now may be an opportune moment to do so. If this is the case, may we invite you to consider inclusion of a bequest to the VCA? Alternatively, if you have recently reviewed your will and would like to make a bequest to the association, then this may be achieved by inserting a short Codicil.
Obviously, the best person to advise you in these matters is your solicitor or trustee company, who can develop the approach to give best effect to your wish to help the Victorian Canine Association and its future.
The following may be useful:
I give to the Victorian Canine Association, 655 Westernport Highway, Skye 3977, an amount equivalent to ... percent (...%) of the residue of my estate or the sum of .....dollars ($....) whichever is the greater, free of any probate or other death duties, whether state or federal and I DECLARE that the receipt of the board of the said association for the said sum shall be a full and complete discharge of my trustee therefor.
We would be grateful if you would, in confidence, let the association know your intentions. Alternatively, if you should wish to discuss the matter further, in strictest confidence, and without obligation, with a senior representative of the association, please contact:
