About Lagotto
Background
Thought to be the most ancient and the possible ancestor of all the water dogs the Lagotto has been around since Etruscan times. He was used to retrieve duck on the Venetian and Romagnan marshlands. Lagottos also have the specialised use of searching for the highly prized truffle.

11-12 years.
Breed Personality/Characteristics/Temperament
Highly intelligent the Lagotto has a marked sense of humour. Most are eager to please with only the occasional "cloth ears". Provided he is well socialised as a puppy, the Lagotto grows up to be a happy and affectionate companion. They are very trustworthy with children.
Compatibility with other pets
Lagottos can live happily as an only dog but being true Italians they do like to socialise and enjoy the company of other animals.
Care Requirements
The Lagotto has a non-shedding coat that requires minimal maintenance but needs clipping at least once a year. The inside of the ears should be kept clear of hair. Lagottos are fairly undemanding with regard to exercise. Happy to be a couch potato they are just as suitable for a family with a more active lifestyle. Lagottos are superb swimmers.

The Lagotto makes an excellent family companion and watchdog being both adaptable and very trustworthy with children. Their non-shedding coat, which can be kept short by regular clipping, makes them suitable for families with allergy sufferers.
