How can DOGS Victoria help in an emergency situation?
DOGS Victoria has reviewed its own Emergency Response Plan (pdf). This document is a work in progress and will be updated regularly. However, it already contains important information for all members including emergency phone numbers, tips on preparing your home and checklists for preparing emergency kits for your family and your dogs. Therefore we recommend you print out a copy now to have contact information and emergency phone numbers close at hand. Click the following link or the map to the right for a large version of the regional map to asses which region covers you.
For more information on preparing your pets for evacuation please read the Pet Emergency Evacuations Tips provided courtesy Heather Tilley, a member of the Border Collie Club.
Notification of Evacuation
Download the Evacuation Notice Form to leave in your door or window when evacuating your home early. This is to let emergency workers know that you have evacuated and also whether or not you have taken your animals with you and, if not, where they are located on your property. Please note we recommend using this form only if you are leaving early and have plenty of time.

DONATIONS TO THE BUSHFIRE APPEAL FUND CAN STILL BE MADE (SEE BELOW)
Many members have expressed concern that those affected by the bushfires are already being forgotten as they are no longer in the headlines. DOGS Victoria is still taking donations to the appeal fund and will continue to support affected members. More importantly, as people begin to rebuild they will probably appreciate the little things that make a house a home. One thing that will certainly be appreciated over the coming months and years are photos you may have around from past shows and trials, especially those dating way back. Most people will have lost all their photos and will appreciate having replacements as all those memories are priceless.
Members who lost photos that have been published in National Dog/Ringleader are invited to contact editor Wendye Slatyer on ringleader@ringleader.com.au with their request. Please provide your name, address, the breed of dog, when the photo was taken or published and any other details that may help them locate the photo/s requested.

DISTRIBUTION OF BUSHFIRE APPEAL FUNDS UNDERWAY - from the Chief Executive
A subcommittee of the management committee was appointed to oversee the distribution of the funds donated to the Bushfire Relief Appeal. In the early weeks after the fires the Subcommittee approved initial payments to a large number of families and individuals who lost homes, property and possessions.
Further funds have since been spent to assist all in need of fencing, kennels, runs, tools, and other support to get life going again. In early April a further round of funding was distributed to those members who lost homes and are beginning to rebuild or relocate their primary home.
Further rounds of funds will be considered by the subcommittee until the funds are fully distributed.
The Bushfire Appeal account will remain open and donations will continue to be accepted into the future. If you would like to make a monetary donation toward helping dog owners and their pets who have been affected by the bush fires please use the following methods:
