Let’s give ourselves a round of applause! The 2013 Big Day Out For Dogs enjoyed a record attendance!
What a glorious day greeted us on Sunday 15th December 2013 for our Open Day and Community event, the annual “Big Day Out For Dogs and Canine Christmas Market” now in its 7th year.
The festivities began at 10.30pm, but by then our clubs and members and the market stall holders were eagerly waiting for our first visitors to arrive. Numerous clubs were already immersed in conformation competition, a terrific welcome to DOGS Victoria for the public to experience.
So many breeds and attractions were on show, there was over 40 clubs in attendance presenting their breed or sport. There were breed competitions and shows, energising demonstrations and interactive exhibitions such as herding, agility and obedience, engaging breed displays and stalls, plus many clubs held fun activities for members and the general public. Countless dogs and their owners queued up to take on the challenge of the activities; their feats definitely entertained the crowds who watched on. Clubs reported a huge interest from the public in learning about pure bred dogs and our community. Members enjoyed the camaraderie, and relished in the lively and jovial atmosphere. All clubs and members are to be congratulated for their marvellous contribution, enthusiasm and hospitality shown to our visitors, making this year’s show such a tremendous success.
Browsers and shoppers were spoilt for choice with a large array of stalls and exhibitors at the Canine Christmas Market. Nearly 50 stalls of dog products and services provided the perfect festive atmosphere for last minute Christmas gift shopping. Many of the businesses said they gained valuable exposure and sales and were delighted with the opportunity to meet and engage with so many of the dog loving public.
The DOGS Victoria fun competitions were again a definite crowd pleaser, with new contests such as the biscuit and spoon race, longest sit/stay and the most dogs of same breed in ring at once. Congratulations to the Chihuahuas! Thank you to Royal Canin for providing the prizes for all our competitions and well done to all participants. Thank you to Nicky Abell for being a wonderful MC and judge.
The DOGS Victoria stand was a buzz with many wanting to know how to join DOGS Victoria and all received a showbag full of goodies. Congratulations to the winner of our HUGE hamper prize, with prizes generously donated by the market stall holders. The jumping castles and the face painting were a big hit with the kids.
We appreciate the support of the many; Thank you to the clubs who invited their members and promoted the event, thanks to the businesses who donated very generously to our hamper, door prizes and showbags, thanks to Colin Sarantis and Helen Green our photographers for the day. Huge thank you to everyone who one way, shape and form played a part, without you the event would not be possible.
A special thanks and appreciation to the Mayor of Frankston City Council Mayor Cr Darrel Taylor MBA, GAICD who took the time to join us, and opened our event.
