Pooches Paradise At The Park
Thank you to everyone who joined us at our annual Open Day on Sunday 14th December 2014. Our Big Day Out for Dogs event gives members of the general public the opportunity to discover DOGS Victoria and to share in our affection for our canine friends. By all accounts it was a really enjoyable day with great public interest in learning about purebred dogs, choosing a breed and breeder, caring for dogs, and how to get involved with canine sport. KCC Park was a sea of marquees with crowds of people and their dogs turning up. Our canine friends were of course the stars of the day with a magnificent mix of big and small, young and old, rare and common breeds lapping up the attention!
The Big Day Out is not only an opportunity for the general public to visit our marvellous facilities and enjoy what DOGS Victoria has to offer, but for clubs to celebrate a wonderful year and the Christmas season . So many breeds were on show, there were over 40 clubs in attendance. Clubs presented breed stands, hosted conformation shows, others ran dog sport displays and fun events for members and our visitors, or just enjoyed the camaraderie of our dog community. The American Staffordshire club held a weight pull, the Bernese Mountain Dog club created a photo booth, the Rhodesian Ridgeback Club ran lure coursing , the German Shepherd club conducted the tunnelling course and the Schipperke club presented a Rally O demonstration … just to name a few. We appreciate the support of every club, members and friends in being a part of the day, without you our open day could not be the event that it is.
The Canine Christmas Market was in full swing, boasting a huge array of goods and services on offer naturally most of the dog-related kind, it was pooches paradise! The relaxed atmosphere created the perfect stress-free Christmas gift shopping for family and friends. Thank you to all stallholders for supporting our event and to all who kindly donated to our lucky prizes.
The DOGS Victoria stand was busy with countless enquiries and hordes of people entering our lucky prizes. Everyone was presented with a show bag and eagerly awaited the prize draws whilst enjoying the rest of the day’s activities. The DOGS Victoria fun competitions was again an entertaining feature with popular contests such as most spectacular trick, owner and dog lookalike and best dressed dog. And of course our members who were vying for the title of “most dogs of the same breed in the ring at once”, which went to the Griffons! Well done to all the participants and congratulations to all prize winners. Thank you to Advance for the generous donations toward the prizes, winners happily left the ring full of goodies! Thank you to Dodo Kelly for being our MC and a fantastic officiator. Thank you and appreciation to the City of Frankston Mayor Cr Sandra Mayer for being our special guest judge and for taking the time to join us.
