GROUP 2 - TERRIERS

Brief History
The Cesky Terrier is the result of crossing the Scottish Terrier and the Sealyham Terrier. Therefore, he must be a compromise between the two breeds and not just considered a coloured Sealyham.

Average Life Span
When considering a dog, please realise that you are taking it on for its lifetime. The average life span is 13 to 16 years.

Temperament
Cesky Terriers are non-aggressive, pleasant, cheerful, loyal and easy to train. They can be very active or "couch potatoes". Early socialisation for puppies is strongly recommended. Care should be taken with adult dogs of the same sex, so if you wish to have two, it is recommended that they are one each of either sex. They are a loyal, obedient, calm, happy companion, easy to train and do best with a daily routine. They are very wary of strangers and new situations, and will give a deep, warning bark.

General Breed Description
The Cesky has a relatively long, moderately arched body and a relatively long, arched head! The skull and foreface have a distinct break and they have bushy eyebrows and a beard. He has triangular ears that fold forward and a lowset tail that can be carried like a sabre. Ceskys come in two varieties of colour. Puppies born black become grey -blue and puppies born chocolate brown become light coffee brown.

Coat and Care Requirements
The soft silky coat on the Cesky is non-shedding and they require clipping at least 4 times a year. Regular grooming is needed to keep the coat tangle free. Brushing at least once a week is recommended. As a long back, short legged breed, care must be taken in avoiding injury from falls and jumping from any heights. A secure backyard is a MUST with this breed. Cesky are at their best as members of the family, with lots of love and human contact.

Height: 25 - 32cms.

Weight: 6kgs to 10kgs.

Health
All breeds have individual health issues. When speaking to breeders it is recommended you enquire about breed health issues and what health testing the breeder does.

Suitability
Ceskys are a quiet dog in nature and as such are ideal for families or single people who would like a devoted companion with a fairly calm and loving nature that still enjoys a fair amount of exercise. Ceskys love playing with the family of their own, but do not enjoy rough play. Supervision with young children, as with any dog, is strongly recommended. They are very wary of strangers and new situations and will give a deep, warning bark.
